ABOUT THE CHAPTER: DESIRE, EASE, AND EXCUSES: 作者分述了各個分章的意義:Abstaining, Convenience, and Inconvenience這三章審視了(examine)如何透過調整努力的程度來塑造習慣。Safe-guards, Loophole-Spotting, and Distraction則點出誘惑或是失敗帶來的挑戰. Reward, Treats, and Pairing主要針對利用pleasure去強化我們的好習慣。#By guarding against excuses and justification, and by making our habits as enjoyable as possible, we help ourselves succeed.#

chapter review 4-1: Abstaining ( Free From French Fries )

作者又開始做二分法: Abstainer and Moderator,不過當然一個人會因不同的情況而有不同的表徵。當無法控制自己對某些東西酌量的時候,作者妹妹告訴自己: you're free from xxx然後一次性戒掉或乾脆不碰----作者解釋這同時也是: free from decisions and guilt!

  • It was always the same---the temptation, the giving in, the promise of moderation, and then the slide into over-indulgence.
  • It's far easier to give up smt altogether than to indulge moderately.
  • When it comes to habits, feeling deprived is a pernicious state. (應思考如何在不覺得deprived的狀況下deprived自己)
  • Abstainers do better when they follow all-or-nothing habits. (Moderators: having smt makes them want it less.)
  • There's no one universal answer. It's a matter of what's better for a particular person. Different solutions for different people.
  • Self-knowledge will enable us to use the approach that works for us.
  • Giving up smt for a short time reawakens our pleasure in it. (ㄡˇ爾)
  • Cravings are more provoked by possibility than by denial.---A desire 會消失的很快如果沒有被fed的話

#Changing a habit may be simple, but it's not easy, and the more tools used, the better(所以作者才講了一堆策略)#

NEW FOR ME:

  • PUNCTILIOUS
