作者舉了許多例子證明不要有物質上的獎勵,除了低估了好習慣的價值,更重要的是長遠而論,我們漸漸會誤導自己當初養成好習慣是為了獲得這獎賞而失去動力。真正的獎賞應該和內在動機緊密關聯、以維持這好習慣為目的的*e.g.:一定會獲得的成就感一類),以下講述了內在動機的七大來源:

  3. CONTROL: Upholder通 常吃這套

相對於利用獎賞制度,有一旦獎賞停止,獎勵行為就停止得隱憂,有時為了維持這好習慣而不斷設定新的目標也是一種很好的方法: 因為獎賞制度的前提通常是先設立一個完成與未完成的指標,因為完成而給予獎賞,先前提過: finish和stop是一線之隔,所以訂定finish line本身就是一件很恐怖的事情....HMMM

  • The reward of good habit is the habit itself. Continuous progress is the opposite of a finish line.
  • If we tell ones that they can watch an hour of TV if they read for an hour, we don't build their habit of reading; We teach them that watching TV is more fun than reading. 值得深入思考

 

這章的開頭作者又再次強調decide, then don't decide 貫徹好習慣的重要性。停止思考該不該獎勵自己? 要給甚麼獎勵? habit的定義和目的就是省掉思考時間,所以獎賞制度與此事相悖的。
